In November 2019, the expert team of FEDUCATION once again visited the affiliated schools of Chengdu Wanhui Education Group to carry out an annual series of comprehensive teacher development training, helping teachers from Sichuan Wanhui Education Group teachers to continuously expand their educational horizons, explore different core areas of education, and integrate, innovate and improve the school-based curriculum as well as to improve the professionalism of teachers, and construct the best quality education for future-oriented children. The Finnish education experts visited Wanhui earlier this year in April and July to implement advanced Finnish educational methods and design. First graders were the first ones to carry out the Phenomenon-based Learning (PBL) project and this visit gave the teachers an opportunity to report on their progress and results of innovation, which was a nice surprise to the experts.
Once again, this visit included class demonstrations and lectures, on topics such as innovative learning environments and tools in science education, early language learning, and early childhood education. These lectures added new elements to the teachers’ educational vision. In addition, the experts also observed classrooms in the kindergarten and elementary schools and helped the teachers create the unique school-based curriculum at Wanhui.
The second half of the training was subject-based group discussions. Finnish experts and Wanhui teachers had engaging discussions on Sino-Finnish curriculum design, the preparation of lesson plans, Sino-Finnish interdisciplinary teaching, and the improvement of curriculum. The Finnish experts also answered daily teaching questions the teachers had for them. In addition, they said that FEDUCATION’s curriculum development team has designed a distinguished curriculum that is most suitable for Wanhui children and follows China’s national curriculum syllabus.
