FEDUCATION 2018 “Finland Education in China”– Teacher Training Program at Sichuan Wanhui Education Group

In December 2018, the Finnish International Education Innovation Research Institute and Sichuan Wanhui Education  Group have started a long-term cooperation collaboration in teacher training, curriculum development, school management, and teacher exchanges.

The teacher team is the cornerstone of a school’s future healthy and sustainable development. Therefore, the in-depth training for teachers’ connotative development is an important part of the multi-level cooperation between Finland and Wanhui. Teacher training will help Wanhui teachers to develop their professional teaching skills and build a team of research-oriented teachers.

In July 2019, based on the aim of improving the Wanhui teachers’ professional development and teaching innovation abilities, FEDUCATION designed the training titled “High-order thinking and Phenomenon-based Learning” for teachers in Wanhui kindergarten, primary school, and middle school. The FEDUCATION expert team implemented systematic teaching and training such as keynote lectures, expert guidance, project workshops, demonstration lessons, and expert commentary. From theory to practice, the Wanhui teachers gained a comprehensive understanding of and proficiency in phenomenon-based learning.

Wanhui teachers now recognize that phenomenon-based learning is to allow children to break the boundaries between subjects and disciplines, break the limitations of inherent thinking. The design of the learning is based on the students’ existing academic background, through interdisciplinary and natural integration learning methods. Throughout the training, the professionalism and dedication shown by the teachers of Wanhui Educational Institution, as well as their research and love for education, won unanimous praise from Finnish experts. In the end, the experts said, “I believe that having such an excellent team of teachers will definitely bring more advanced and better courses to the children of Wanhui.” Through the guidance of experts during the comprehensive training of teachers in the summer, Wanhui teachers were able to make full use of their time to polish and complete the teaching plan for the “Finnish Phenomenon Learning Week” for all grades from Wanhui kindergartens to secondary schools. During this week, the observation, expression, and initiative of Wanhui children brought great surprises to teachers and Finnish experts, as did the professional growth of the teachers at Wanhui
